Getting some R & R

I tend to get what is known as "cabin fever" about a couple of times during the year.  It's during those times that I need to get away, take a break, smell the roses and fresh air.  To regroup myself and take in the beauty found in this world.  Usually the beach is my sanctuary.  But this weekend, I was able to get away to Big Bear.  Took a stroll through the local zoo, toured the lake, and relaxed.

Sometimes you just need some good ol' rest and relaxation.  And Big Bear is another one of like 7,356 reasons why I love living in California.  Hope you guys had a great weekend too!

And a couple of photos :)

A little blurry but eh, that's what you get from a point and shoot :)

Gettin' My Art On!

As part of my art class, we are to go to the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) and see first hand the sculptures, paintings, and installations that we've learned about in lecture.

Surprisingly, I have never been to an art museum. But now I can check that off of my goals list! So the whole time I'm looking at art, I'm staring outside and wishing I could be out making my own art in LA! The museum was fun but the real fun of the day was when I joined in on a guy with a point and shoot taking photos of these three girls he rounded up outside of the museum and I definitely got my art on with the last bit of light! Art is so much better with people in it, especially when they're cute girls :). Speaking of which, shout out to the girls: I didn't catch your names and I'd really like to know so email me at hello@jackielamas.com whenever you can!

Happy Sunday!

The Grove in LA (which I absolutely love!).  La Loteria Grill, great Mexican eats at the Farmer's Market. Gas Lamps outside of the LACMA, Richard Serra installation.

Still Full...

Thanksgiving was amazing. Went over to my dad's, had dinner, watched movies, and ate apple pie. And...I was the official turkey chef. First turkey (with lots of help) and it was amazing! We're still eating it!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday weekend and ate til they had to unbutton the jeans. :)

Of Pomp and Circumstance

During my high school career, as part of the band, we were cordially invited to attend the graduation ceremonies of those who were off to bigger and brighter futures. We got premier seating to the right of the stage next to all of the staff who proudly wore their college graduation regalia.

We were the official ceremony orchestra and got the privilege of playing

Pomp & Circumstance

over and over and over again during the processional. When I mean over and over again, I mean that we played it so many times it was like the sheet music was there just for show because by the time the graduates stopped walking and were seated, I had already memorized the damn song.

That was high school.

College was a whole different ball park. They had loud speakers playing the pre-recorded song as we walked our way to our seats. But now I can hear the song in a whole different way. A week ago, some good friends of my dad (and I mean good friends as in the kind that they were friends before I was born kind) had the chance to give me a very special kind of gift.

I must admit, I am not a snow globe type of gal but I have this one sitting on my desk where I can see and hear my college experience whenever I want. Because after all, college was so much better than high school!

Portraits : All in the family

I love my family. I love that my family is pretty creative. My mother, a floral designer,

my sister

, a make up artist and hair dresser, and

my father

, a general contractor.

When they ask me to take pictures for them, I am more than willing to shoot what ever they want. So when my dad asked me to take some corporate head shots of him for his website, I said YES!

I love taking photos of people and it's even better when those people are my family. Love you daddy! :)

And if you ever need a

great contractor

with incalculable knowledge visit his

website

!

Events : Alex & Astrid

Remember the sneak peak from the previous post...here is the rest. I was asked to shoot my cousins' first communion last Sunday. It was a joyous and memorable event followed of course by a

carne asada

and some

jamica, mmmm!
