Case of the Monday's
Hello Monday!

I had such a great weekend and I am so sad it's over yet I am excited for this week. I had a family shoot on Sunday, a bitchin model shoot today, and later in the week a meeting with a bride-to-be. If every weekend were like this past one, I'd be one happy gal.

In other news, I saw Dear John last week and I must say it was one good chick flick! If you liked The Notebook, then you're sure to like Dear John. It was a tear jerker without all the cheesiness. Definitely one to watch during this time of year.

Crazy California and it's crazy weather. It is a major inconvenience to wake up and not know whether to put on some rainboots or a tanktop. However, I do thinks it's cool that I can either go to the beach or to the snow.

And Monday's are better with sneak peeks :)

Melissa & Cesar | Inland Empire Engagement Photographer

What a great way to begin this weekend with a sneak peek of two people who love each other! After six years of togetherness, these two still got the hotts for each other! I had so much fun photographing them and taking advantage of the big of sunshine we had during the week.

We started our shoot at the UCR Botanical Gardens and then moved to the Riverwalk to catch the last bit of sun.

I can't wait to shoot their wedding in a couple of months, it's gonna be uber fun! Happy weekend my dears!

This one below is probably my favorite of the whole day :)

Inspiration Thursday!

When I switched my major from 'undecided' to 'communications' in college I felt like a whole new world opened up at my feet. Rather than dreading the questions "so, what are you studying?" I felt proud to go into depth about my new found direction in life. A new way of looking at life. However, photography was not that light at the end of the tunnel. I was public relations major. I digress.

As part of the curriculum, all emphasis' under Comm had to take the same core classes which all involved some sort of history lesson on the development of mass communication. All of which included photography as big jump from cartoons to real images in newspapers showing the gory deaths from car accidents and war. As I moved into my photography major, we always learned about Henri Cartier Bresson. A pioneer in street photography and you can't help but want to learn more about him and his work. Check him out, google him. Find him on Wikipedia, or just click here:).

And here are only a tiny glimpse at what he did over the years as a photographer. If photographers had their own world, he'd have a monument dedicated to him. Yeah, I went there.

To learn more about this amazing photographer, please visit the following page which is dedicated to making art accessible to all.  You can go learn about Henri Cartier Bresson, read his bio, view more than 150 works of art, read exclusive articles, and discover up-to-date exhibition listings.  You can also discover many other great artists while visiting the page.

Case of the Mondays!
Is on Tuesday because my computer is sick. :( Viruses are the worst thing ever! Seriously virus makers, don't you have anything else to do?

Anyway... Here is a sneak peek of the engagement shoot I had yesterday! More to come later this week, after my computer gets fixed. Will someone please buy me Macbook?

Happy Tuesday!

1 Studio, 1 Model, and 2 Photographers

Since the beginning, I have always learned by watching and observing. By listening to teachers explain methods to math problems and how to correctly spell "definitely" (which by the way I still can't spell and have to use spell check). In college I learned to to take notes on what they said and the theories they, the professors, were so eager to teach and passionate about. And now, in the real world, I still learn by watching, observing, and taking notes.

That has transcended into my photography. I study what other photogs are doing, what the magazines put out there, and every now and again, I get to collaborate with a fellow photog. Sal Olivas and I spoke a few times about our photos, the industry, why Canon is sooo much better than his Nikon (just kidding but totally had to throw that in there!), and how we can learn from each other. He knows studio. I don't.

So...to make a long story short, he rented a studio this past week and invited me along to shoot. I was uber excited! To learn from someone else and expand my skills in the one thing I love to do most? Umm... Hell yeah!

And here are only a few of my favorites, because seriously, I had such a great time learning from Sal  and shooting Cinderella that really, all of them are my favorite :)

Here's Sal. By the way, you should check out his blog HERE and check out the shots he got :).

So, we started with some headshots first of the super gorgeous Cinderella

.

Then we moved into the fun stuff...there are more images I'd love to post but we'll keep it PG-rated for now :)

Happy Friday!

Inpiration Thursday!

Wow, time flies! And with this perfect weather, how can it not! Today's Inspiration is...
Manuel Alvarez Bravo! A photographer who went around shooting everyday life in Mexico. Very photojournalist and yet very simple imagery. He was also shooting during the 1930's when photography was still just a toddler. Using light and contrast to give emphasis to his subjects. And he even got to shoot the famous Frida Kahlo!
Here are a few of his shots that I just love. Also, he has a book out and it's definitely worth checking out at the local book store!
Happy Thursday!

Case of the Mondays
I definitely woke up today not wanting it to be Monday. I had a fabulous weekend to say the least and I'm not ready for it to be over!

Saturday was my sister's birthday! Happy birthday sister! Sunday, I went hiking to Laguna with a friend and had a blast. So naturally, today seems like such a drag. But I do have lots of editing to do from this weekend so I suppose I'll just relive the memories and be content with my sunny Monday.

Happy February 1st to everyone especially my cousin who turns 21 today! It's also Black History Month.

A new month and I've got some pretty cool things coming up on this here bloggy blog so stay tuned this month for more photo goodness!

I've been saying that I want a Snuggie so bad, a bright orange one, since that's my favorite color! Well, I never thought I'd see the day when Target would sell Snuggies for dogs...funniest thing ever! I almost bought one for my dog...but then I realized that'd be a little weird. However, deep down, I am secretly trying to come up with a way to get one!

I didn't watch the Grammy's and I feel like the only one who didn't. Did I miss much, really?

Well, that's all for my Monday. I leave you with a photo from this weekend :)

Happy Monday!
Inspiration Thursday!
It's that time of week again! Okay, this guy isn't someone new that I've found; actually I've been following his work for quite some time. And let me tell you, I practically drool onto my keyboard every time he posts something new!

Jose Villa is amazing! He still shoots film, always has, and his work is phenomenal. Voted as one of the top wedding photographers of the world, he travels just about everywhere but his style remains the same. Villa's style is vintage, simple, and everlasting. Also, his attention to the details is extraordinary. Ahh, drooling already!

Need I really say more? So hop on over to his blog and take a look at more of his stuff. Becareful because I'm sure you'll start to drool as well :).

Case of the Monday's
Sunshine for the weekend? Yes please! I had such a great time enjoying the sun light and being outdoors versus being cooped up inside for a week straight! This also gave me amazing light to shoot the engagement session I had yesterday!

WPPI...who's with me!?! I can't wait! Thousands of photographers in Las Vegas just makes perfect sense with me :).

I'm keeping this week's post short on words since the sneak peek is so much more interesting! Thi & Whitney, thanks for being so fun!

Thi, you are gorgeous!

Happy Monday!
Gettin' My Art On!

As part of my art class, we are to go to the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) and see first hand the sculptures, paintings, and installations that we've learned about in lecture.

Surprisingly, I have never been to an art museum. But now I can check that off of my goals list! So the whole time I'm looking at art, I'm staring outside and wishing I could be out making my own art in LA! The museum was fun but the real fun of the day was when I joined in on a guy with a point and shoot taking photos of these three girls he rounded up outside of the museum and I definitely got my art on with the last bit of light! Art is so much better with people in it, especially when they're cute girls :). Speaking of which, shout out to the girls: I didn't catch your names and I'd really like to know so email me at hello@jackielamas.com whenever you can!

Happy Sunday!

The Grove in LA (which I absolutely love!).  La Loteria Grill, great Mexican eats at the Farmer's Market. Gas Lamps outside of the LACMA, Richard Serra installation.
