Stillness

It's nice to be in the stillness of the apartment.  Cars pulling out of driveways, gates opening and closing, the whoosh of a car blazing past.  It's as if we're all alone inside.  Separate.  Isolated from the world that continues to go on.  I love afternoons like today.  Watching the sun set slowly through the windows.  The silence makes it feel calm.  A deepening silence.  The kind that make the smallest moments change the attitude of the day.  No matter what happened before, right now, everything is moving and working in complete harmony.  Connected effortlessly.  Balanced.  Just silence.  Just stillness.  Where our thoughts are a voice we can hear.  I breathe deeply as I close my eyes and suspend myself in the stillness.  Allowing it to engulf my every molecule.  I slip into the stillness, break through, and when I open my eyes, I am changed.  I am new again.

Gaby + Fer Sunset Plaza Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta Wedding

I woke up at 6am relaxed.  Refreshed.  Ready to take on the day.  That is what the beautiful beaches in Mexico do to you.  The warm weather and gorgeous waters make for beautiful photos.  Gaby and Fer had their wedding in the beautiful beach town of Puerto Vallarta.  Sunset Plaza offered a beautiful background for their big day!

We were with the bride and groom for all of the special moments.  From getting ready to the First Look, civil ceremony on the rocks and to the church ceremony.  Finishing with an amazing garden party at the hotel.

Gaby + Fer: Gracias por darnos la oportunidad y honor de fotografiar su boda!  Los queremos mucho y fue maravilloso ver el dia desarrollarse con mucho amor, amigos, y felicidad!

Coordinator:  Weddings by Herick Lamas
Location:  Sunset Plaza Resort & Spa, Puerto Vallarta
Dress:  CB Casa Blanca Novia
Make UP: Paloma Garcia Salon

ESP: Desperte a las 6 relajada.  Renovada.

Thank you!

There are no words to describe how honored I am to do what I do.  To be able to create once in a lifetime photos for families, couples, kids, and babies.   Thank you to all of my clients for letting me be a part of your lives and for having me photograph you!

I look forward to seeing many more familiar as well as new faces this year!

Happy 2015 everyone!

Be-Lated Honeymoon

I can't believe that we are at our 6 month mark!  I'm liking this whole marriage deal.  Wake up next to the person you love, endless cuddling before falling asleep, eating together as a family of two at our table, and traveling.

When we got married, we didn't have the time to go on a honeymoon.  So when Gaby + Fer booked us for their wedding in Puerto Vallarta, we decided to extend the trip a week and finally have a honeymoon.  My husband and I love to backpack and camp and thanks to my awesome dad, who is just like us, got us these amazing backpacks.  We travelled through the entire Bahia de Banderas in the Puerto Vallarta coast.  We enjoyed summer weather, amazing warm waters, cool people, and got to see the famous Isla Marietas that's being posted all over Pinterest.

I have to say that it's true what they say: "A couple that travels together, stays together."  There is nothing like watching a sunset over the beach and turning around to see your husband enjoying it at the same time.

Thank you God for such an amazing time and for family!  At the bottom I'll list all the places we travelled.  For now, enjoy the slideshow of our trip!

Gaby + Fer | Majalca Engagement Session

I absolutely love engagement sessions.  When I meet with potential clients, I make sure to express how important an engagement session is.  Not just for the photographer, but for the couple.  Aside from the wedding day, the engagement session the only real time you have before your wedding that photographs a couple the way a couple really is.  How their love really is.  It allows the couple to have extra photos of them that are a bit more relaxed.  It helps us to get to know each other on a deeper personal level rather than just meeting on the wedding day.  Helps me ask nosy questions like how they met, and how did he propose (or she!) and anything else that doesn't have to do with the wedding day.  All while getting romantic and intimate portraits of how they are, together, as one.  Before all the stress and wedding dress, and flowers.

This engagement session is no less beautiful!  Gaby and Fer took us to the canyons of Majalca which are just gorgeous during this time of year.  With a small river flowing by and beautiful light coming through the trees, it was a dream!  And how they are together is nothing but full of love.  Check it out :).

Yessenia + Charlon | Downtown Riverside, California Destination Wedding

There is something special in being a photographer.  Not only am I able to make someone's beautiful day last forever, I am able to photograph my own family grow.  My cousin, Yessenia married Charlon on a bright and sunny day in September.  It felt like every bit of summer and they stood through the heat like champions.  And if they can withstand summer California weather, they can withstand whatever may come their way.

I wish you two the very best in life, love, and happiness!  It was an honor to photograph your wedding and live each moment of your day with you.  Love you guys!

New Website: JACKIELAMAS.COM

Introducing my new address!  As in new website address.  I bought my website back in 2010 and back then the whole vintage style was in.  It was a template and at the time, perfect for my growing business.  For the last year or so, I've wanted something different.  Never knew exactly what I wanted but I needed a change.  I saw other websites go up and for some reason, they were all the same.  Another template with blog integration, cool home site, and lots of bells and whistles.  Blah... another template meant to "wow" that costs a fortune.

I'm not sure how I can across SquareSpace.  I think I ended up on someone's website and saw that it was from SquareSpace... to be honest I'm not sure how I stumbled across it.  But I have to say, I'm sure glad I did.  They have beautiful templates, fully customizable with a clean design.  That is what I was looking for.  A website that let me change the font if I wanted, change templates, and give me good hosting.

So I made the switch.  I also made the decision to drop the "photography" at the end of the link.  Why?  To be frank, the name was too long.  I started my business thinking that I had to put "photography" so that people would know what I did.  Clearly, it's been a long road since then and I had no idea what I was doing business-wise.  Also, in gong with a cleaner, easy to navigate website, the name too had to be simple and easy to remember.  My name is short and those looking at my website will have a clear idea that I am a photographer.

So after 4 years, here is to my new website!  Make sure to click the photo to be taken to the website.  You'll love the new design, I promise!

Here is the newsletter that I sent out to my email list :).
